I write SpaceKindly's storage guides. Most of them start with a tape measure and an awkward corner — the space where the obvious answer turns out not to fit.
The method is the same on every page. Measure the usable opening rather than the labelled size, check the route an object has to travel to reach it, and read the fitting instructions before the photographs. If a product cannot be verified against a real installation, it does not go in.
I work these ideas out in a rented two-bedroom flat with a narrow kitchen, a single wardrobe and no utility room, which is why the guides lean towards removable, freestanding and tension-based solutions. Corrections and questions are welcome on the contact page.
